Bunion Surgery
Bunion surgery, also known as a bunionectomy, is a procedure to correct a bunion, a bony bump at the base of the big toe that causes pain and deformity. It is done to relieve discomfort, improve foot function, and correct misalignment when non-surgical treatments like orthotics or pain medication fail.
During the surgery, the surgeon removes part of the bone and soft tissue, realigns the bones of the big toe, and may insert screws or pins to hold the toe in place. Recovery involves wearing a protective boot and avoiding pressure on the foot until healing occurs.
