Retinal Tear Surgery
Retinal tear surgery is a procedure performed to repair a tear or hole in the retina, the light-sensitive layer at the back of the eye. This condition can lead to retinal detachment and vision loss if not treated promptly. The surgery aims to reattach the retina and prevent further complications.
It is typically done using laser photocoagulation, where a laser is used to create small burns around the tear, forming a scar that holds the retina in place. Alternatively, pneumatic retinopexy may be used, involving the injection of a gas bubble into the eye to push the retina against the wall. Recovery involves monitoring vision and avoiding certain activities until healing is complete.
